History

North Park School became apparent during 1968 and 1969 following the rapid development of private houses in the northern section of Mount Pleasant. In early 1969 a decision was taken by the Ministry of Education to build a school at the Groom-bridge site but when this became known by parents in the area of Northwood and Mount Pleasant Park, a request was made to re-consider the Groom-bridge decision to Dunkeld road site.

In March 1969, the Regional Education Officer, Mr. A.H Siemens decided to carry out a census of the families in the Mount Pleasant area to help the Ministry of education to decide the most suitable site.  Mr. Percy Yates who was the Acting Education Officer at the time, took a major role in the census. In June 1969, the Dunkeld Road site was chosen.  In July 1969 work commenced on building two blocks of four classrooms each and the administration block.  Mr. Percy Yates was appointed the first headmaster of the school with effect from 1 January 1970. The school opened for the first time on Tuesday 20 January 1970 at 8am with an enrolment of 243 pupils.  To date, several headmasters have passed through the school some of which are Mr. P Yates, 1970; Mr. Grant, 1978; Mr. J Immelman, 1980; Mr. N. G Roberts, 1981; Mr. J Cooper, 1982; Mr. Chabvonga, 1988; Mr C Rukweza, 1996; Mr W. T Chinhanga, 2004, Mr. A. Chinyamuchiko, July 2012 and Mr Nkomo from September 2017 to date

The school has become very popular because of good results, and every parent has a desire to take his/her child to this school, thereby attracting so many children from the neighboring suburbs. The school enrolls from ECD A through ECD B to Grade 7. The enrolment is going up each and  every year and the current enrolment stands at 1200 pupils. Our curriculum covers all the subjects offered at primary school level and includes Shona, English, Mathematics, RME, Social Studies, Environmental Science, Home Economics, HIV/AIDS, and Computers. In order to enrich our curriculum, the school has introduced computers starting from ECD A through to Grade 7. The school has 3 classes per stream, except for Grade 4 that has 4, and there are 31 teachers in total. The school also employs a number of supporting staff.

The continued growth of North Park School could be seen from the growing numbers of their enrolment. This growth can also be attributed to the caliber of the workers that the school employs who have the human factor components with craft literacy and craft competence. These workers have beyond mere book education and training, but are also capable of blending together their social values with their technical skills for the development of the school.
